My ‘Sliced Pinky’ Accident (and 2 Important Mindset Lessons To Help You Be An Internet Marketing Success)

February 8th, 2010
Kyle After His Sliced Pinky Accident

Kyle After His Sliced Pinky Accident

I have an embarassing story to share but hopefully it will yield some good lessons for you…

So last Thursday was a day like any other for me… I woke up today at 5:00 AM so I could start my day with a workout in my Home Gym.  I did an intense workout for about 30 minutes and then came upstairs so I could cook some breakfast, have some Green Tea, and start my day…

I had a healthy little breakfast and after munching spotted the sink full of dirty dishes and decided to tackle the mess and clean those dishes before I jumped into my day of work.

Half way through my ‘Suzie-homemaker’ dish-washing escapade I was washing out this cool Pint Glass I got from this crazy Bar in Atlanta that my friend bought me when the glass suddenly broke into shards and in the process sliced a MASSIVE chunk of flesh out of the outside of my pinky on my right hand…

I looked down at my pinky and the blood gushing out of it and realized I had cut myself pretty darn deeply.

Awesome…

I quickly grabbed some paper towels and applied some pressure to the gaping wound and after a few carefully chosen curse words, got mad at myself and that stupid mistake I just made…

I then quickly realized I needed to go get some stiches because it was a pretty bad cut.

I stopped being mad at myself because that was not helping at all, and then started focusing my mind on what I needed to do to solve this problem and do something that would actually help me.

It was no easy process, but I figured out how to get my winter coat on without bleeding all over it, grabbed my keys, and hopped in my Jeep to drag myself to the Emergency room…

All the while bursting with excitement (sarcasm) with the idea of sitting for two hours in a Hospital waiting room (always a fun time)  :)

I arrived at the Hospital and at this point my finger was throbbing with pain pretty badly…

I was greeted by some really nice hospital staff that took care of getting me registered and getting settled into my own private hospital treatment room.

For the next two hours I spent some quality time in that room waiting while the Doctors and medical staff took care of people who needed more urgent care than I did (one guy was having a heart attack and another some prostate problems - yikes).

Luckily, I had recently bought the “Droid” phone and I had some ebooks uploaded to it that I could read while I waited in the room which turned out to be great because I was able to take my mind of my finger and fill my brain with some new great information.

I was actually studying an ebook from fellow New Hampshire resident Glenn Livingston (who is an amazingly talented Google Adwords ninja).  The long story short, I was able to get some great education in because I was prepared…

==========
LESSON #1:  Always be prepared with good information to pour into your brain at all times.  Having the right mindset and the right tools present can help you make the best of any situation.
==========

So back to my story,

Soon enough the Doctor came in, prepped my finger, injected some magic serum to make my finger go numb (which kinda sucked), and then proceeded to stich my mangled finger back into one piece.

They wrapped a massive Gauze wrap around my newly sewn up pinky finger, I got my instructions from the Doc, signed some more paperwork and I was on my way.

After that 2 hour ordeal I shot over to the Pharmacy to fill a presciption for Antibiotics, and then went home and got on with my day…

I was able to get some great work done despite my injured finger so that was cool…

At the end of the day was time for my scheduled workout downstairs in my basement home gym.  I have some ofty goals and I have a plan and I certainly wasn’t going to let this injured finger get in my way.

I had a lower body lifting session planned for that day that included exercises like Lumberjack squats, front squats, back squats, Romanian Deadlifts, Trab Bar Deadlifts, etc

I had to modify some exercises and make some substitutions but all in all I had a kick butt training session and I did not let my circumstances keep me from working towards my goals.

============
LESSON #2: It could have been ‘REALLY’ easy to simply skip my workout that day due to my injured finger, really easy to give myself the day off due to the unfortunate circumstances I had experienced BUT I instead chose to do whatever I could and work around this circumstance.
============

I tell you what, it felt AWESOME to get my scheduled training session in despite this roadblock that popped up in my way.

It was a strengthening decision that made me feel good>  I felt empowered that I was able to make progress towards my goals no matter what.

Here’s a quote I really like that fits in well here:

“Every decision you make - every decision - is not a decision about what to do.  It’s a decision about who You Are.  When you see this, when you understand it, everything changes.  You begin to see life in a new way.  All events, occurrences, and situations turn into opportunities to do what you came here to do.”

-Neal Donald Walsch

——————–

With all that said,

My finger is on the mend and I have downgraded my bandage to a smaller more compact version.  :)

I am still working hard and making progess on my goals despite it all.

I hope that you overcome all obstacles thrown in your way and keep moving closer to your goals every day!

To your success my friend,

Kyle Battis

If A Dumbass Muscle Head Like Me Can Be Successful With Online Marketing Then You Can Do It Too…

January 29th, 2010

Here’s a little background information for you about me. I grew up in a small Podunk town in Northern New Hampshire. I had about 103 kids in my graduating class and I was an average student. I never picked up on a lot things very quickly and to this day I am very much still a slow learner. I skirted by in high school doing just enough to get by and when it came time to choose a college and a major, I had no real clue what I wanted to do. I knew I liked science; I knew I liked sports; so I arbitrarily decided to major in Sports Medicine (I was the guy who would run out on the field when athletes got hurt).

In college I had a great professor in my Biology Class who made it really fun and interesting and for the first time in my academic career I actually busted my ass and worked hard in a class.
Looking back on that class I remember him saying, “We have some really smart people in this class who get A’s without even trying BUT for all of you that don’t view yourself as smart or gifted, you can get an A too by working harder than they do.”

This statement caught my attention and made me believe that I could do it too. You see, one of the key objections people have to anything is that they don’t think it will work for them. This professor helped me realize that I could do it too. (helping to convince your prospects that ‘they can do it’ is one of your chief duties as a marketer and will result in more sales for you).

Anyway, I took his statement to heart and busted my ass the entire semester. The course material was hard for me to grasp so I had to spend more time studying, reading the course book, re-reading the course book, spending time with classmates in study groups, getting to class early, staying late, and even going to see the professor for extra help and clarification. I put in the work…

Long story short – I got an A in Biology that semester and it was the most proud of my work in a class that I had ever had at that point and it changed how I viewed myself. I no longer viewed myself as an average student but instead of someone who was capable of a lot ‘if’ I worked harder than anyone else.

Let’s fast forward and I’ll show you how I apply this lesson today…. After college and a few years working in the Sports Medicine field, I threw myself into Internet Marketing because I wanted to grow my income, escape the time for money trap, and have the freedom to work how I wanted when I wanted.

I remembered my Biology professor’s important lesson he taught me and so I applied that to my goal of learning how to be successful internet marketing, getting good at it, and making money as fast as possible. I dove in, did my homework, woke up early, stayed late, and got as much guidance as possible to achieve the goals I had set for myself.

2 Things I Focused On To Overcome My Lackluster Mental Capacities
And Lack of Knowledge To Become An Internet Marketing Success…

1. Learning: Jim Rohn says “your income will never exceed your own personal development.” I have heard it stated time and time again that “if you spend an hour a day learning about a topic in a year’s time you will be an expert on that topic.” I knew nothing about marketing business, or making money before I started a few ago BUT, after spending 30 minutes to 60 minutes a day, 5 days a week for the last three years, I am now an expert. I have leveled the playing field and climbed the ladder of success because I filled my brain with the right materials.

Important Questions: How much time are you wasting on activities that don’t make you more of an expert (TV typically will not make you a better marketer FYI)? What are you reading each day? What are you studying? What course are you going through? How are you improving your skills? What can you replace with your current schedule so that you can fit in this crucial education time?

2. Work Ethic: I work harder than most so I get ahead further than most. I learned a long time ago that working your ass off can make up for a lot. When you start in internet marketing there is a lot you won’t know, a lot you won’t understand, a HUGE learning curve, an ever-changing playing field, aspects of the business that you will suck at, and things you will screw up on. I am ok with that and you should be too. Every day you wake up, you start working towards your goals, you bust your ass, you work the plan, you screw things up, you learn from the mistakes, and you keep moving forward. Every day the clock is ticking. Every day people will try to steal your time doing things that don’t move you towards your goals. It’s your responsibility to stay absolutely focused on your goals and do something (at least) every day to move towards your goals, ideally, you should be doing LOTS of things each day to move you closer to your goals.

Important Questions: If you have clear and compelling goals you WILL bust your ass everyday to get your work done. Honestly, how hard are you working on your internet business each week (Do you really think one blog post a week is going to cut it??). How many things have you done TODAY to move closer to your goals (there is no tomorrow)? Have you seen examples of other information marketers that are working hard? How can you do MORE than them?

So my friend, what are your goals? Where do you want your business to be in 3 years from now and what will your life be like then? Build that compelling and powerful Vision in your mind and remind yourself of it DAILY. Then LEARN and WORK every day to make it a reality and you will achieve success too. If a dumbass muscle head like me can do it then you can too. 

Staying Focused On Internet Marketing Success - How I Use ‘Anchors’ To Remind Me To Take Action And Move Closer To My Goals…

December 18th, 2009

Hey guys,

I was watching a video of Frank Kern speaking at Dan Kennedy and Bill Glazer’s Info Summit and Frank was talking about some of the ninja secret mental aspects of being successful and it reminded me of some powerful things that help keep me focused on success.

One of the psychological ninja tools I use to keep a success mindset is a “Psychological Anchor.”

Simply put, a psychological anchor is an association to any life memory, want, or desire . “Psychological Anchors” are composed using all of our senses including that of sight, sound, smell, taste, and sensation. When applying a “Psychological Anchor”, the greater number of senses used, the stronger it becomes, and the harder it becomes to falsely trigger.

Alright, now that we’ve got the silly definition stuff out of the way check this video out where I point out some of the Anchors I have in my home office that keep me focused on making more money and striving for internet marketing business success…

After I shot the video I realized I have even more Anchors sitting around my office… I have pictures of my Harley Davidsion, pictures of me and my wife in cool places like Mexico and New Zealand, I have a Digtial Timer to remind me that time is always ticking down to keep that sense of Urgency present in my mind, I have affiliate checks laying around to help program abundance in my mind even more.

I also have my screen saver program hooked up to trigger a Slide Show of pictures of places I want to go, the Range Rover I want to buy, pictures of the Physique I want to have, and more goal images.

I would recommend starting to surround your work environment with Triggers and Anchors like these that will motivate you into greater action.

Stay focused on the life and success that you want my friend and take daily action to move closer to it all the time.

I wish you the best of success!

Sincerely,

Kyle Battis

One Undercover Method To Launch Your Product

December 17th, 2009

By Kyle Battis
www.UndercoverLaunchSecrets.com

There has been a lot of talk about “product launches” in internet marketing circles for some time. Jeff Walker first introduced the concept to the mainstream with his excellent “Product Launch Formula” product. Frank Kern added some unique twists and tactics with his “Mass Control Course.”

In fact, it’s become somewhat of a “niche” within IM (much like email marketing, viral marketing, article marketing, etc.) with many articles, reports and products devoted to the topic.

For the record, just so we’re all on the same page, here is a working definition of a “product launch”…

A product launch is the sum total of your marketing activities to produce as many initial sales as possible of your newly created product.

A very generalized view of a product launch looks something like this…

-> Build a list of prospective buyers in your target audience.
-> Develop a hot product that is in demand by your list.
-> Tweak your sales process until it is rock-solid.
-> Release pre-launch high-content special reports and videos to wet the appetite of your subscribers…
-> Create pre-launch buzz by “teasing” your subs with details.
-> Find influential partners to promote you on “launch day”.
-> Create more buzz by revealing case studies of results.
-> Announce your product to list on launch day with some kind of limit or deadline to further get them to act now.

Now, to be sure, there are a lot of “parts” within each of these steps, but that’s the basic overview of what a product launch looks like.

Sounds easy, right?

If it’s so easy, then is it that “gurus” are the ones who predominately pull it off? How often do you really hear of an “average Joe” who makes a splash with a product launch?

The truth is: the average person won’t see significant results from a product launch.

There are a variety of reasons for this, but perhaps the most critical is the fact that…

The average person can’t get influential partners to promote their offer for them as a part of the launch.

Pull that out of the “formula” for a product launch and you basically have yourself sending out some mailings to your own list.

The truth is, without the leverage from partners’ existing influence and assets; your product launch isn’t going to make much of a splash in the overwhelming majority of cases.

So, while I could write a special report to fill in the blanks of the aforementioned “overview” in order to give you all the “parts” needed, it probably wouldn’t be of much benefit to you.

Instead, I’m going to do something that

The truth is, without the leverage from partners’ existing influence and assets; your product launch isn’t going to make much of a splash in the overwhelming majority of cases.

So, while I could write a special report to fill in the blanks of the aforementioned “overview” in order to give you all the “parts” needed, it probably wouldn’t be of much benefit to you.
Instead, I’m going to do something that

I got started in Internet Marketing interviewing other experts following the www.MyFirstTeleseminar.com interview model that Tellman taught to me. With this model I was able to build my e-mail list and build relationships with already established marketers who had big lists already.

One of my partners who I interviewed in this series was a very smart marketer by the name of Tom Venuto. Tom had an amazing product that I believed in (the best fat loss ebook on the market hands down called www.SecretsOfBurningFat.com).

Anyway,

I interviewed Tom a couple different times and had some awesome teleseminars that went really well. From there we started to build the relationship further and I went out of my way to help Tom out – promoting his product to my small but newly formed list, connecting him with other marketers whom I had interviewed, and just learning more about him and what his goals were.

I’ll never forget, one day we were talking on the phone and I mentioned to him that Tellman and I were working on a Membership website called www.InstantADDSuccess.com and were about to launch it. This piqued Tom’s curiosity and he said to me, “I’ve always wanted to make a membership site but did not know how nor have the time to do it.”

Right then and there I knew I was going to approach Tom about creating a business together and launching a Membership site. I continued to sharpen my skills and learning everything I could about membership sites and continued to build my relationship with Tom.

A couple weeks later I wrote Tom a long e-mail pitching him on my idea. I wanted to take on the heavy lifting of creating a Membership Website for him and his list.

I proposed that I would do all the heavy lifting putting the site together, upload the content, create the infrastructure, handle the customer service, work with affiliates, and do everything I could to make the site a success.

I proposed that Tom would provide his marketing expertise (Tom is brilliant marketer that has been successfully selling online since 1999), create the content for the site, and market the site to his BIG e-mail list.

Tom put a lot of thought into it and came back with his proposal, I accepted, and www.BurnTheFat-InnerCircle.com was born. We launched the membership site to Tom’s e–mail list a month later and instantly had a profitable membership site with thousands of paying members. SUCCESS!!

Tom and I are still running the Burn The Fat Inner Circle today and constantly growing membership and site revenue so this method of launching a product flat out works!

To see a video where Jeff Walker interviews me about this launch visit this link:
http://www.overcomeeverything.com/kyle-launch/

Andy Duncan recently used this same approach with Tellman Knudson and they launched http://www.howtomakequickcashonline.com and had a VERY successful launch.

Some more examples of this tactic in action would be www.EasyTrafficSteps.com, www.SpiderLanguage.com, and www.MyFirstTeleseminar.com.

These are sites that myself, Mike Purvis, and Pat Marcello launched WITH Tellman to his lists. We did all the heavy lifting, created all the content, we split the project with Tellman and launched the sites to his list.

This is a killer method of launching a product. Dan Kennedy had a quote that summed it up nicely in his Renegade Millionaire Product, “If you don’t have any resources then you have to be resourceful!” By leveraging the resources of more established marketers, rolling up my sleeves and working my butt off, I’ve had some very successful product launches!

If you liked this “Undercover Product Launch” strategy then be sure to check out this special report: www.UndercoverLaunchSecrets.com
